Diamond Information The "4 C's" and what they mean for you. ![]() All diamonds contain minute inclusions determining their "clarity". Most inclusions cannot be seen by the untrained naked eye, and only someone with a trained eye using a 10X microscope can locate them. The fewer the inclusions the higher the clarity, and rarer the stone. A diamond's colour can range from colourless, to shades of yellow or brown. An important factor determining a diamond's value! The closer a diamond is to colorless the more rare and expensive the diamond is. Letters of the alphabet are used to help place diamonds into their appropriate colour category. This is called "Colour Grading" and is provided by the Gemological Institue of America (GIA) and is used world wide. : (see GIA's colour grading scale below):
![]() The most obvious "C" to an untrained eye is Carat Weight. Diamonds are weighed, determining the sizes that you frequently hear. • 0.25ct (quarter of a carat or 25 points) ![]() Last but not least, there is the Cut. Not a lot of people talk about the cut. However, it is one of the most important C's. The cut is what gives the diamond it's sparkle. Also, it is the proportion the diamond is cut by and not the shape in which it forms (ie: round, marquis, square). ![]() |
